How I wrote and published 10 books in 5 years

Wrongful Love

on the 24th of February 2019, I sat down and decided to start writing. not sure if it was going to go anywhere but I had to try. By may 24th 2019 I had completed writing a 23,528-word novella I set to editing and by June 30th I had finished editing and had sent it away to my aunt to proofread and do some editing. I came up with the name on 8th June 2019 when I was trying to think of a name for a Wattpad book. by 29th may 2020 all the editing was done. And I was sending it off to three publishing houses in hopes of getting published I, however, did get accepted to all three but realized that wasn't the direction I wanted to go with my novella so I self-published on November 17th 2020

Rejected mate

I started writing the rejected mate back in 2018 when I was only fifteen years old, the book landed up being 15k words long. In 2020 I got approached by HiNovel and they wanted to sign it on for an exclusive contract which I agreed too, the money from this book and the two others I signed paid for my book cover for Wrongful love. i edited the book abd made it 20k words now in 2023 its sotting at arpund 30k 

The gamer girl

I started writing the gamer girl in 2018 i then signed it with hinovel in 2020 where i edited it to 30k words

Double trouble

I started writing double trouble in 2018 with a grand total of 30k words hinovel then signed it on am exclusive contract. 

My hybrid mate

on the 1st July 2019, i sat down and started writing, i already had 6k in the story which i managed to do in 2 days. for the first 25 days in July, i managed to write the first draft of the story. i finished the story off with just over 50k words. on December 1st i went back and re-edited and re-read the book and made all the changes i had to, i then reread the story with all the changes and sent it to my aunt to proofread and edit. once that was done i sent the book away and included that the book was one of the books out of three in a mini-series all in a different point of views and different time dates and the average length of the other two books just in case they wanted to pick all three up which would save time. None of the agents wanted to take on my book or the series so I decided to self publish on the 25th December 2022.

The hybrid sisters

this book took from august 2019 to December 2019 to finish the first draft, on August 1st 2021 i started editing and doing all of that stuff. I self published on 11th January 2023.  

A wolfs choice gone wrong

On the 1st November 2019, I started writing a wolfs choice gone wrong for NaNoWriMo, by day 24 I had written 50k words and the first draft was complete, it went into its stand-down period and i started final Edit of the book on 4th  January 2023 i started to edit the book and re-read it and it was ready to self publish on 10th of January 2023

The banshee curse

On the 1st of April 2020, I started to write the banshee curse; with 5,000 words on the first day, I knew I could get this book written in the entire 30 days. on day 32, I had written the whole book at a total of 45,160 words. the book went into the stand-down period. I started editing it on the 1st of December, 2022. By the 3rd of January 2023, the book was ready to be published, and I did this by self-publishing on the 4th of January 2023. 

Endometriosis: a rude awakening 

I don’t remember when I started writing Endometriosis: a rude awakening but I started my edits at the start of 2022 and self published the book on July 21st 2022

Short story collection

I started writing short stories in 2020 and edited them the same day I wrote them after I wrote 14 short stories I compiled them into a book and published them on October 18th 2022

Misconceptions about writing a book

A lot of people don't understand how hard it can be to write a book. when you talk about having a job as a writer/author people think it is so easy and when you try and explain to people how difficult it actually is people don't really understand so this blog post is here to educate people so that they can see how hard it can be. this isn't a full list of everything but this is just a just a look into two of the biggest things I have found people don't understand.

One of the major misconceptions I hear about is how fast it takes to write a book and get published and I think this comes from how many established authors there are with their turn around rate like Stephen King.

This definitely isn't true especially for new writers trying to get published, as an example I started writing Wrongful Love around the 24th of February 2019 and I wasn't able to publish until November 17th 2020 that's about a year and nine months between when i wrote the first ever word to when I self published the novella. this is still considered fast to some authors. I have heard of authors  still working on there first novel ten years later. There is no perfect time frame to write a book and that's okay and normal.

Another example is i started writing project hyrid in July 2019 and i am still working on it now in march 2021  which just shows some books take longer then others because each writer and book is different and works in different time frames.

Another misconception is about how easy it is to write but there is so much that goes into a book its not as easy as sitting down and writing and then publishing, you have to make sure it flows, no plotholes, make sure everything is perfect, no mistakes. 

When you start writing it is also hard to get going at times because of blocks in your brain that stop you being able to think of where to go next and other times its hard to  work out what is wrong with your work, you can sit staring at the same sentence wondering whats wrong with it and nothing is clicking in your brain saying this is how you fix it.

How to win NaNoWriMo 2020

NaNoWriMo, 50,000 words in 30 days is it possible? yes! i wrote all 50k words in 24 days last year and you can too

the biggest thing to remember is that in November you have 30 days to write 50k words that is just over 1,666 words a day. if you only wrote on weekdays that is 22 days of writing at around 2,272 a day.

i wrote 24 days last year and won so it isn't impossible but that is about 2,083 words a day, some days i only manged fifteen words and i had to make up for all the lost words the next day which was hard. but before you start freaking out here is my tips on how to achieve this amazing goal.

winning NaNoWriMo is almost exactly the same as winning camp NaNoWriMo except you have to reach 50k and cant set your own goal.

1. Pace yourself

while it may sound like a good idea to sit down and write for five hours each day you will drain yourself a lot faster, if you plan to write every day you're goal is to hit 1,666 a day. some days you are going to be over that and other days you will be under but if you know that you have to write a certain amount of words you will soon work out how long it takes you on average to write that amount of words each day. which will make the days you are under a lot easier to catch up in the future.

2. Outline

while i myself am more of a pantser i do a brief outline of my project that i will be working on {Check out my blog post on outlining} in the post linked i talk about how i outline briefly to help get everything done without it being a full outline which makes me feel restricted.

3. Get inspired

there are many ways to do this, you could go for a walk, listen to music, go and be with nature it really depends on you. i personally search up on google "writing prompts" and look at pictures or follow links and find one best fitted for the novel you are writing. i find this really helpful and i immediately find inspiration

4. Leave it unfinished

when you know you are going to be finishing writing, for the time being, if it is for a few hours or for the day that doesn't matter, the best thing to do so you don't come back and go well what to do now start the next sentence and don't finish it. for me, i finished writing for the day and knew i wouldn't know where to start again so i finished off with 'i walked into the kitchen and saw' while you wouldn't want to finish a chapter, paragraph or bookending like that it just means you can come back and it will be super easy to get back into it, meaning fewer writers block moments.

5. Sprint

for this, all you need to do is search up NaNoWordSprints on twitter and wait for the people to come on, or you can set your own timer up on your laptop or phone. a word sprint is when you have a timer for a certain amount of time and you just flat out write, then you take a break when you are done before going straight back into it. Video on sprints with information on them

6. Accept That Your Manuscript Will Not Be Perfect

don't try and make it perfect, that will only help you not make your word goal, realize that no matter what there is going to be major editing involved so there is no point in worrying about it all being perfect now when that is the least of your concerns, the faster you realize that the easier it will for the words to flow.

7. Write

sometimes the best thing to do is just write, even if it is never going to make it into the final copy of your project, every word counts when you start writing the words should just start to flow meaning while it most likely won't make sense it still counts towards your word goal and you may make something that you can use for your book

Four Things That I Wish I Knew About Writing

There is a lot I wish I knew before I started writing so I have compiled some of them to help you.

One of the major things I wish I knew is that your first draft will never be perfect and just because it sucks doesn't mean it can't be great. this was something that took me forever to understand because for the longest time I would think my writing was amazing and then I would come back and read it and it is garbage so I would throw it out instead of editing and trying to make it better.

Talking about it is so much easier. I have spent hours and hours talking to my family and even friends about the amazing book I am writing or thought of and even discuss every little detail but the minute I went to write I couldn't find the right words, how to write it the way I pictured it in my head. which brings me onto the new thing I wish I knew

Perfection isn't key, now obviously if your book doesn't have spelling mistakes it would be so much easier in the long run to edit but the first draft is just you telling yourself the story, you can edit it the way you want the book to be once you have written the book so it is better to write half pie ideas and plots then not writing at all because you want it to be perfect from the start.

Not everyone will like your work and that's okay. when you are a writer rejection is a big part of it from agents, publishing houses, friends, family and readers alike. your book won't be for everyone and there will always be at least one hater who will try and destroy your confidence but no matter what you do there will be haters and as long as you love your book don't worry what others think.
